Missionary Service

Missionary Service

Missionary Service is a sacred responsibility. Missionaries don't only the preach the gospel. They also provide service to others and serve as witnesses for or against the communities they visit.

How does missionary service work?

Missionary Service can be very difficult, but also very rewarding. Missionaries leave their homes without any money and only the clothes on their back. This can be a very troubling experience but it serves several important purposes. It allows the works of God to be manifest to the missionary. It also allows the works of God to be manifest to those people the missionaries visit. Finally it also serves as an opportunity to test the community where the missionaries visit. Will the people give food, money and clothing to those in need or will they reject them. THe only support for missionaries comes from God and the people they minister among.

How long do missionaries serve?

Missionaries serve as long as the Lord commands them. This could be for a few weeks or many years. A person is not restricted to one mission, they can go on multiple missions.

Who can serve a mission?

Scripturally the primary force of missionaries is the Quorum of Twelve Apostles. They are to travel the world to serve as missionaries and fulfill their apostilic duty.

The second force of missionaries is the Quorum of Seventy. They travel the world as missionaries under the direction of the Quorum of Twelve.

High Priests, Elders, and Priests of the church can travel to serve as missionaries.
