This page will help you learn about various teachings and subjects related to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
It is important to remember that it is alright if you disagree with a subject presented here. One strength and beauty of Mormonism is that it allows for a wide variety of personal beliefs. When Pelatiah Brown, Sr. was called up to be excommunicated for preaching false doctrine, Joseph Smith spoke saying:
"I do not like the old man being called up for erring in doctrine. It looks to[sic] much like the Methodists. And not like the latter-day-saints. Methodists have creeds which a man must believe or be kicked out of their church. I want the liberty of thinking and believing as I please. It feels good not to be trammeled."
You shouldn't have to feel that if you disagree with the views presented on this page that you are not a Latter Day Saint, or that you have to abandon membership with the church. Rather we welcome a variety of opinions and lively discussion concerning these topics.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is simultaneously, simple and complex. It can be understood as a few basic principles it can also be understood as a vast system of interaction.
The Lord teaches us the fullness of His Gospel in 3rd Nephi 11:32-41:
32 And this is my doctrine, and it is the doctrine which the Father hath given unto me; and I bear record of the Father, and the Father beareth record of me, and the Holy Ghost beareth record of the Father and me; and I bear record that the Father commandeth all men, everywhere, to repent and believe in me.
33 And whoso believeth in me, and is baptized, the same shall be saved; and they are they who shall inherit the kingdom of God.
34 And whoso believeth not in me, and is not baptized, shall be damned.
35 Verily, verily, I say unto you, that this is my doctrine, and I bear record of it from the Father; and whoso believeth in me believeth in the Father also; and unto him will the Father bear record of me, for he will visit him with fire and with the Holy Ghost.
36 And thus will the Father bear record of me, and the Holy Ghost will bear record unto him of the Father and me; for the Father, and I, and the Holy Ghost are one.
37 And again I say unto you, ye must repent, and become as a little child, and be baptized in my name, or ye can in nowise receive these things.
38 And again I say unto you, ye must repent, and be baptized in my name, and become as a little child, or ye can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God.
39 Verily, verily, I say unto you, that this is my doctrine, and whoso buildeth upon this buildeth upon my rock, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against them.
40 And whoso shall declare more or less than this, and establish it for my doctrine, the same cometh of evil, and is not built upon my rock; but he buildeth upon a sandy foundation, and the gates of hell stand open to receive such when the floods come and the winds beat upon them.
41 Therefore, go forth unto this people, and declare the words which I have spoken, unto the ends of the earth.
"One of the grand fundamental principles of 'Mormonism' is to receive truth, let it come from whence it may." - Joseph Smith, Jr.
Seeking truth is an essential aspect of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We do not claim to be the source of truth. We do not believe that seeking truth means looking for those things that corroborate what we already believe.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is to be a repository for truth. Like a sponge which soaks up all true principles. We should be looking to science and spiritual narratives to find those truthful things. Then we need to bring them and incorporate them into our system.
Truth does not reside only in the objective sphere as our western logic demands. But it also resides in the subjective sphere in which we find our personal experiences and sacred narratives convey much truth.
"Friendship is the grand fundamental principle of Mormonism." - Joseph Smith, Jr.
Friendship is the essence of Mormonism. Christ taught that we were to love all people. The love of friendship is given with out conditions. It is not dependent upon someone converting or believing the way we do.
By changing our attitude to be one of friendship towards others we can have the Spirit of Christ as our companion.
Relief is a natural extension of the principle of friendship. It is the action we take towards others in helping them and meeting people's needs as a community and individuals.
We should be ready to come to the aid of God's children. We are all in need of aid on some level. Relief given to our fellow beings benefits all of us and can come back upon ourselves when we are in times of need.
